A Day of Art, Music, Performances, and Encounters at the Museum Ludwig

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the Museum Ludwig invites you to a grand anniversary celebration on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Cologne residents and visitors to the city can look forward to a diverse program for all ages—featuring music, workshops, guided tours, “Art:Dialogues,” and performances. Admission is free.

The celebration offers the opportunity to experience the Museum Ludwig as a vibrant hub of modern and contemporary art. Throughout the day, there will be musical performances in collaboration with the Cologne Philharmonic, a sound workshop for children, guided tours focusing on the museum’s architecture, and Art:Dialogues in the Permanent Collection.

A special highlight is the site-specific adaptation of the dance and music performance “UNTIL THE BEGINNINGS” by Cologne-based choreographer Stephanie Thiersch, developed specifically for the anniversary celebration. Together with performers Nadéeya GK, Shelly Quest, and Joel Suárez Gómez, she brings together movement, space, and the audience in the museum’s foyer.

At 2:00 p.m., the birthday cake will be cut in the entrance hall—with Mayor Torsten Burmester and Museum Director Yilmaz Dziewior. In addition, the neighboring Cologne Philharmonic will celebrate its anniversary starting at 1:30 p.m. with additional concerts, guided tours, and workshops around Heinrich-Böll-Platz.
