Isaac Chong Wai: THE MOTHERS

Exhibition

Video installation as PICTURE DISTURBANCE #1

The video installation "The Mothers" by Isaac Chong Wai, presented as Bildstörung #1 as part of the exhibition "KOLLWITZ NEU SEHEN" at the Kollwitz Museum in Cologne, enables a haunting dialog between past and present. Inspired by Käthe Kollwitz' expressiveness and stylistic strength, Chong's work addresses the universal motifs of motherhood and the protective instinct. The artist transfers this content into a modern context that includes loss, death, grief, resistance and cohesion. Performers embrace and weave themselves into a living sculpture while their songs permeate the space. This exhibition builds a bridge from Kollwitz' historical works to current socio-political discourses and invites visitors to rethink and expand traditional perspectives.
