A piece of Austria in the Rhineland

Perfection is an attitude that, once adopted, permeates everything - from the purchase of ingredients and the preparation of food to serving and the design of the ambience. What does such an overall concept of perfection trigger in the guest? Enjoyment at the highest level. The feeling of being welcome. And the desire to return again and again.

This is how many people feel when they visit Gruber's in Cologne's court district - perhaps originally inspired by the restaurant's membership of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs and listing in the Michelin Guide

A liaison of tradition and modernity

Since 1999, Gruber's has been paying tribute to the Alpine republic of Austria hundreds of kilometers to the north - with classics from Austrian cuisine, from Wiener Schnitzel to Kaiserschmarrn, wines and spirits and the hospitality for which our neighboring country is known. Tradition and originality are firmly established here and also serve as the basis for modern interpretations.

The maxim of the kitchen: top quality, love and care

For owner Franz A. Gruber, the ingredients used in the dishes are sourced according to principles such as species-appropriate origin, freshness, seasonal and regional ties, variety and quality. For example, all products come from deliveries for top restaurants or from regional cultivation.

Gruber's menu: from traditional and modern to green

In addition to the à la carte menu, the restaurant offers several set menus and a surprise menu, each with several courses and optionally including wine accompaniment - for connoisseurs of modern, traditional and green, i.e. vegetarian, cuisine. The menu includes the traditional and much-praised Wiener Schnitzel or Tafelspitz (boiled beef) as well as - to name just a few examples from one season - a confit turbot with black garlic or potato and saffron risotto or Carinthian Kasnudel (cheese pasta) with pointed cabbage, wild garlic and capers.

At lunchtime, the menu concept takes a less sumptuous approach, in the spirit of a lighter lunch. In addition to the culinary delights, the wine selection is also very Austrian with Grüner Veltliner and Zweigelt. The fine selection of Rieslings and Merlots also allows you to discover the diversity of Austrian wine culture.

A top restaurant with many rooms

Austrian Franz Gruber, a trained chef, restaurant specialist and state-certified hotel manager, has been running Gruber's in Clever Straße for over 25 years and has established the restaurant in Cologne's top gastronomy scene. His head chef: Denis Steindorfer from Carinthia.

In addition to the main restaurant area, the fine dining room and the terrace, Gruber's has several other rooms: the stylish Bar Sissi for your aperitif, the round, magnificent Wiener Rathaus for your larger party, the somewhat smaller Kölner Dom room or the exclusive "Österia" wine bar - with its own entrance terrace area.
