Weißer Holunder
The Weißer Holunder in Gladbacher Straße is a piece of Cologne's living history. Originally opened as "Gaststätte Schumacher" in the 1920s, the pub was modernised in the 1980s before being reopened in 1991 with a new name and partly original interior design. The glass partitions and wooden panelling add to the charm of the pub, which describes itself as an "economic miracle". The name "Weißer Holunder" goes back to the song of the same name by Gitta Lind, which always begins with the nostalgic Rock-Ola jukebox.
The Weißer Holunder is not only famous for its inviting atmosphere, but also for the legendary sing-along concerts that take place on Sundays. People of all generations meet here to enjoy Cologne songs together. Especially during the carnival season, the pub unfolds its full attraction with exuberant celebrations. The final event is traditionally the Nubbelverbrennung on Veilchendienstag.
