Albertus Magnus, an important theologian, scholar and philosopher, is one of the most important figures of the Cologne Middle Ages as a polymath.
In 1248, Albertus Magnus became head of the "Studiums Generale" at the Cologne monastery school of the Dominican Order and, as its successor, founded the old University of Cologne in 1388. It is therefore only fitting that a monument was erected to him by the artist Gerhard Marcks in front of the university in 1954.
