Remembrance & Cycling Culture
To kick off the series “Experiencing Cycling Space—Memory, Negotiation, Participation,” the focus is on a newly designed ghost bike that serves as an open space for remembrance within the urban landscape. This abandoned, rediscovered bicycle evokes the stories of cyclists and bike travelers whose journeys ended abruptly and whose experiences were often scarcely documented. The evening invites participants to view this object not only as a symbol but as a starting point for a collectively sustained practice of remembrance. Katrin Müller will open the event with insights into the participatory project and encourage attendees to contribute their own perspectives to the dialogue. Following this, Horst Kraus from ADFC Cologne will shed light on the historical development of the Ghost Bike movement and its significance for a critically reflective culture of remembrance in public space. Through presentations, conversation, and discursive exchange, a space will emerge in which mobility, safety, and urban coexistence can be reexamined. Free admission underscores the open nature of this evening, which takes place on Wednesday, June 24, starting at 6:30 p.m., and invites participants to understand urban space as a shared and malleable structure.
