Velonia's FEST in the saddle

To mark the fifth anniversary of Velonia e.V., an event is being held in Cologne-Braunsfeld that puts the bicycle at the center as a cultural, social, and practical companion. The “FEST im Sattel” creates a space for exchange, a culture of repair, and playful experiences centered around bicycles. The open workshop invites participants to gain a better technical understanding of their own bikes and learn skills that promote self-reliance and safety in everyday life. At the same time, the Bike Games challenge participants’ dexterity and focus—with events like the “Slowest Ride” or the precise “Track Stand.” Younger visitors discover creative approaches to mobility in the craft corner. Musical performances, including live acts and a choir performance, set the mood for the day, while the Mampferia’s focaccia bar and cold drinks provide an informal culinary accompaniment. The panel discussion “Respect on the Roads” brings a socially relevant topic into focus: People who cycle daily share their perspectives on how mindful coexistence on Cologne’s streets can be achieved. The festival sees itself as an open forum that combines learning and celebration.
