Uncertain terrain
The exhibition "Uncertain Terrain" shows new works by Düsseldorf-based painter Katrin Laade, whose process-oriented visual language continuously explores hidden levels and visual fields of tension. Her works are created in an experimental studio practice that interweaves classical painting with unorthodox techniques: sewn-together fabrics, spray paint, adhesive tape or overpainting create layers in which color simultaneously spreads, is concealed and forms unexpected transitions. It is precisely this tentative approach - between control, chance and consciously allowing breaks - that characterizes the large-format compositions, in which forms seem to drift and pictorial spaces appear unstable. The eponymous work "Cosmic" is an example of Laade's interest in energetic structures that transport viewers into an open field of visual possibilities. The exhibition makes it possible to understand how a body of work has developed over decades that interweaves structures, growth processes and visual impulses and at the same time asks which traces a picture reveals and which it deliberately withholds. On display is a multi-layered insight into an artistic work that experiments with materiality, processuality and perception without allowing itself to be pinned down to unambiguous interpretations.
