Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra | Daniel Harding

Classic

Joseph Haydn and Richard Strauss

On January 19, 2026, the Cologne Philharmonic will become the venue for a musical highlight when the Vienna Philharmonic, conducted by Daniel Harding, performs. The evening focuses on the emotional depth and virtuosity of two composers: Joseph Haydn and Richard Strauss. Haydn's Symphony in F minor, also known as "La Passione," opens the concert with an impressive interplay between sorrow and fiery drama. This is followed by Strauss's "Don Juan," a richly orchestrated tone poem that traces the adventures of the legendary seducer.

After the intermission, the program continues with Strauss's "Don Quixote," a musical interpretation of the brave yet tragic figure of Don Quixote. The expressive cellist Péter Somodari will enrich the performance with his rendition. He is accompanied by the skilled musician Tobias Lea on the viola. Both pieces unfold the characteristic sound culture of late Romanticism in a precise and harmonious execution.
