Hospitality Between the Rhine, the Granary, and Schnitzel

Joseph’s is a restaurant in Cologne that serves German-Austrian cuisine in a unique atmosphere. The building was originally a warehouse on the Rhine, with thick walls, high ceilings, and materials that still bear visible traces of its history. Rather than reinventing the space, the designers reimagined it: warm lighting, the Rhine visible through the windows, and, above it all, the old hoppers through which grain once flowed.

Culinary-wise, Joseph’s stands for familiar classics, prepared with care and served with precision. The schnitzel, in particular, is central to the restaurant’s concept. When they were looking for a name, it was clear: a dachshund was a perfect fit for German-Austrian cuisine, but “Waldi” just wasn’t enough. “Joseph” sounded like someone who knows what a schnitzel should be like. So the name stuck first with him and then with the restaurant.

The kitchen draws on German-Austrian specialties and combines them with a hospitality that feels down-to-earth, attentive, and warm. Joseph’s is thus a place for anyone who appreciates schnitzel, classic dishes, and an evening with a view of the Rhine.

Here, the architecture of the former warehouse, good food, and an eye for detail come together to create a dining experience that makes you want to linger a little longer.
