The Excelsior Hotel Ernst has been located in a traffic-calmed zone since April 2023. Access for guests of the hotel from Rheinuferstraße, as well as the exit from the underground car park at the cathedral, remains guaranteed for motor vehicle traffic.

The Excelsior Hotel Ernst is the only 5-star luxury hotel and member of the Leading Hotels of the World in the Rhine metropolis, located in the city center next to the World Heritage Site Cologne Cathedral, just a few meters from the main train station. The historic old town, the Museum of Modern Art and the House of Fragrances 4711 are all within walking distance. Koelnmesse, one of the world's largest exhibition centers, is 4 km away.
