One of the most important elements of the Roman fresh water aqueduct of the CCAA is located on the western outskirts of today's city of Cologne. In the settling basin of the Eifel aqueduct, the flow rate of the water was slowed down so that dirt particles in the water settled to the bottom and purified water flowed further into the city. Other functions in the settling basin enabled the Romans to turn off the water towards the city when the pipes needed to be cleaned. The construction of the aqueduct can be dated to 30 AD to 50 AD on the basis of coins that were built into the basin.

You can easily reach the Klettenbergpark stop on tram line 18. From here, it is around 950 metres to the sedimentation basin of the Roman Eifel water pipeline.
