Insights into ancient Cologne

One of the absolute highlights of ancient Cologne can be visited in the west of the Cologne city area - a real insider tip! The Roman tomb in Weiden is considered to be the best-preserved Roman burial chamber north of the Alps. Wealthy landowners once buried their family members here, which allows us to immerse ourselves in their world of yesteryear.

The shelter and the guard's house are also of interest, as they are the first listed buildings from the Prussian era. None other than the then master builder of Cologne Cathedral, Ernst Friedrich Zwirner, built the architecturally outstanding structure, which closes the circle to the centre of Cologne. The keeper's house also functions as a "place of learning" and takes visitors back to the time of ancient Cologne.
