Heliosstraße in Ehrenfeld is considered to be the first spot where street art found its way into the city. In the 1990s, the district was still largely characterised by industrial buildings from the late 19th century and enjoyed a dubious reputation. There was plenty of free space here for street artists to let off steam.
With the beginning of the 21st century, the neighbourhood underwent a transformation that continues to this day. As a result, some of the industrial buildings and clubs that had taken up residence in the meantime have disappeared, but street art has survived, including here in Heliosstraße. Many local artists continue to use the small street as an open gallery for their works.
