Aduni Ogunsan
From November 5 to December 19, 2026, the artothek Köln will present the exhibition “The Hum Of Your Rhythm” by Aduni Ogunsan. In 2026, the artist will receive the City of Cologne’s Friedrich Vordemberge Fellowship for the Visual Arts. The exhibition opens on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at 8:00 p.m.
In her large-scale, vibrantly colored paintings, Aduni Ogunsan explores the people in her personal circle. Family members, friends, and groups from her everyday social life serve as starting points for a painterly exploration of closeness, memory, and belonging. A key element in this process is a family photo album depicting people whom the artist cannot clearly identify but to whom she feels a connection.
Black and queer perspectives also shape her work. Ogunsan sees herself as a witness to her times and brings everyday moments of community to light. Her paintings feel familiar and yet open, as if visitors themselves could become part of these groups.
The title “The Hum Of Your Rhythm” refers to a shared, physically palpable sense of resonance. Fabrics, clothing, and textile materials are more than just image carriers or decoration; they tell stories of memory, origin, self-expression, and global interconnections.
