Athanor and the anthropology of the material

Lecture/reading

POLKE SALON 14

Sigmar Polke's 1986 Biennale installation was characterized above all by his confident handling of unconventional materials. The complex of works shown in the West German pavilion represented the culmination of several years of experimentation following Polke's travels to Australasia in 1980-81. This POLKE SALON will examine the role of peripheral or extinct cultures, transformational processes and anthropology in Polke's work and situate it within a network of contemporaries who explored the relationship between alterity and visuality.
A small wine reception following the talk invites further exchange.

Part of Sigmar Polke. Athanor NOW, a project of the Anna Polke Foundation.
