The Lion of Judah: a symbol of remembrance
The central bronze figure, the "Lion of Judah", was sculpted by Hermann Gurfinkel, a former Jawne student. The lion, with its paw raised and gazing desperately towards the sky, carries the tablets of the Ten Commandments on another paw. Its haunting form symbolises both powerlessness and the duty to uphold universal values such as justice and humanity.A collaborative work of remembrance
The fountain was created after years of research and initiative by Dieter and Irene Corbach, in collaboration with Gurfinkel. The surrounding bronze plaques, inscribed with the names of the murdered children, make the memorial a lasting reminder. Commemorative events are held here regularly, often with the participation of schoolchildren, to keep the past alive and emphasise the importance of ethical behaviour.Good to know
