Marcus Krips - Stop Barbarossaplatz

street art/ art in public space
Cologne's Barbarossaplatz will certainly never win a beauty award. The square is primarily a traffic junction and is therefore characterised by the road and rail network that converge here, important but not attractive in a classical sense.

It helps that the Cologne artist Marcus Krips designed the maintenance building between the railway tracks in the centre of the square. The colourful design is entirely in the artist's style, but the figures in particular are the artist's trademark. These have been part of Marcus Krips' oeuvre since the 1980s and therefore enjoy a high degree of recognition, especially in Cologne and its cityscape.

At this point, we can assume that a homage is being paid to the people who breathe life into the square. Facial expressions in all their facets are depicted in minimalist street art / graffiti style and the different emotions that come together on the lively square are visible. However shabby the square may look, the people and the maintenance building are not.
