Queen of the Night by Tika

street art/ art in public space
The Swiss artist Maja Hürst, who works under the pseudonym TIKA, was invited to the City Leaks Festival in Cologne in 2013 to install one of her large-scale works, for which she has become famous, in the Belgian Quarter. This was also a special occasion for the artist, as she had spent part of her youth in the cathedral city, which may have been the reason for giving the people of Cologne the 'Queen of the Night'. The queen seems to fly over the city and protect it with her body, holding the buildings that characterise the city skyline in her hand.

In addition to the motifs borrowed from the South American and Hindu cultural cosmos, the kinetic elements of the mural are typical of TIKA's artworks. The small aluminium plates play a kinetic game with the incident light, by day and (less so) by night.
